Bipolar II is characterized by one or more episodes of major depression with at least one episode of hypomania during a lifetime. The depressive episodes must last at least two weeks, and the hypomania must last at least four days.
Hypomania is a milder form of mania, characterized by an increase in energy and a heightened state of mind, which can often feel quite pleasant. This condition can make you feel powerful, omniscient, creative, passionate, and uninhibited, but is can also be dysphoric—making you irritable, disorganized, enraged, or terrified.
Hypomania doesn´t typically result in serious relationship problems or extremely risky behavior, but your behavior can make people around you more than a little uncomfortable.
